Serving as an Examiner
Volunteer Examiners are experts capable of evaluating businesses and organizations eligible for the LPEA. The program recruits the best in business, education, health care, government, and non-profit sectors.

Would you like to

increase your professional capabilities and personal contribution to your organization?

witness first-hand the strategies used by some of Louisiana's high-performing organizations?

play a key role in advancing the application of quality practices throughout Louisiana?

If you answered Yes to these questions, we encourage you to join the Louisiana Performance Excellence Award Board of Examiners.

The Louisiana Performance Excellence Award has been administered by the Louisiana Quality Foundation since 1995. Each year, Louisiana companies participate in an application review process, potentially leading to a site visit review. Organizations that demonstrate commitment, achievement and excellence when evaluated against the Louisiana Performance Excellence Criteria (which is aligned with the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Criteria) are recognized at the annual Louisiana Performance Excellence Award presentation. Beginning with the 2004 award cycle, the Governor will recognize award recipients.

Volunteer Examiners are needed to help evaluate award applications and to conduct on site applicant reviews. As an LPEA Examiner, you will receive training that has been evaluated by many of the participants as some of the most valuable quality training available anywhere. In addition, Examiners who go on-site at an applicant’s organization will see first hand how other organizations structure and integrate quality into work processes. It is also a great opportunity to interact and network with peers from across the state.

Examiners must have expertise in at least one of several quality-related areas, such as process management, linking process improvements to business results, or customer focus strategies. They must possess good analytical, writing, and oral communication skills, and be able to work as team members. Although not a requirement, it is helpful for Examiners to have previous assessment experience such as evaluating or preparing applications for internal, state, or local award programs. Of course, Examiners must meet the highest standards of ethical behavior.

Examiner applicants will be charged $350 for the training, which must be submitted with your application. This includes 2 ½ day training in September and the Performance Excellence 2016 Book. Examiners who successfully complete the full assessment process may attend the awards ceremony free of charge.Training participants who cancel less than 10 days before the training will be charged a $25.00 handling fee.

The Examiner process does require a commitment of time and an ability to meet with your team and the applicant (if a site visit is required) on certain dates throughout the examination process. This year's calendar is attached for your review. Please ensure that you are able to meet the requirements of the overall schedule prior to attending the training session.

An Examiner Applicant Package can be accessed below. The application is included in the package along with a description of examiner responsibilities. Applications are due by August 1.

Your support and participation are needed to extend the quality message throughout the state. And, if you know of other individuals who might be qualified to be an Examiner, please send their names to Louisiana Quality Foundation.
